Amy Mihaljevic was a ten-year-old girl who was abducted and murdered in Bay Village, Ohio, in 1989. Her case remained unsolved for years, becoming one of the most notorious cold cases in Ohio history.
On October 27, 1989, Amy received a phone call at her elementary school, supposedly from a friend of her mother's who wanted to take her shopping for a gift. Amy left school that day but never returned home. Her body was discovered on February 8, 1990, in a field in Ashland County, Ohio.
The investigation into Amy's murder was extensive, involving the FBI and numerous local law enforcement agencies. Several suspects were investigated over the years, but none were definitively linked to the crime.
In 2023, James Zastawnik was identified as the potential suspect in the case and charged with Amy's murder. He died in 2024 without ever being convicted.
